Everything you need to know about SteamRev and our revenue estimates
SteamRev uses the Boxleiter Method, which estimates game owners by multiplying review counts by 35, then applies deductions for regional pricing, discounts, refunds, Steam cut, and VAT to calculate net revenue. This method provides a reasonable approximation but should be considered an estimate, not exact figures.
Our game data comes directly from the Steam API, including review counts, pricing, ratings, and game details. AI-assisted technology, team and cost annotations may be incomplete or incorrect; check their linked sources before relying on them.
There is no validated accuracy guarantee for individual games. Discounts, regional sales and review behavior can materially change results. These are premium-game sales estimates, not official revenue or profit; free-to-play and in-game purchases are outside the model.
Update dates vary by game. Check the record date beside its estimate; a cache duration is not a promise that the underlying data was refreshed. Legacy snapshots do not record separate input observation dates.
The data provided by SteamRev is for informational and research purposes only. While you can reference our estimates in articles, reports, or analysis, we recommend always citing SteamRev as the source and noting that figures are estimates, not official data.
Games may lack revenue estimates if they have too few reviews (less than 10), are free-to-play (which use different monetization models), or if we haven't yet processed them. New releases typically need a few weeks to accumulate enough reviews for meaningful estimates.
The Wilson Score confidence interval provides a more accurate rating than simple percentages, especially for games with fewer reviews. It calculates a confidence interval for the true positive rating, accounting for sample size. This prevents games with few reviews from appearing disproportionately high or low in rankings.
Our AI analyzes publicly available information about games to estimate development team sizes. This includes parsing credits, developer interviews, and company information. When a source is available, we provide a link for transparency.
